This unique beach house in Zahara de Los Atunes is perfectly situated on the beautiful Costa de la Luz. The “Coast of the Light” with it’s broad, uncrowded beaches, authentic fishing villages and historic white mountain villages that have not been touched yet by mass tourism and is typical for Spain’s most beautiful province: Andalusia.

Ronda the spectacular mountain cliff, Jerez with its sherry Bodega’s and world-famous Spanish equestrian school, fantastic Sevilla with its cathedral and Moorish palaces, beautiful white village of Medina Sidonia, Roman temples of Bolonia, pirate and hippie town Tarifa with its whale watching adventures, historic city of Vejer de la Frontera: it’s all just a stone’s throw away from the peaceful tuna fishing village of Zahara de Los Atunes where your holiday home is located.

Less than a 50 meters walking distance brings you to a clean and wide beach overlooking the coastline of Morocco. Swimming here is fun and safe for children as well. The spacious, well maintained and supervised swimming pool, open from June till September, is located just behind the villa and offers a welcome break on days when it’s too hot on the beach. There are plenty of good and affordable local restaurants in close vicinity to the beach home and in Zahara de Los Atunes itself. Afterward, you can enjoy a cocktail on the front patio of the villa enjoying the cool evening breeze and the sound of crickets or take a stroll to the beach for breathtaking sundown with a stunning sea view.

The beach home has 3 levels and is situated on a new, uniquely designed, holiday complex where all villas have different facades and color schemes. Security is provided by means of a closed gate system and a night watch. The main entrance brings you into the modernly decorated living room and dining room, the well-appointed kitchen, and the cool, shaded patio.

A set of wide stairs will bring you to the 2nd floor where three bedrooms are located. The main bedroom has a large bathroom with a bidet, overlooks the nearby mountains and offers sea views from the balcony.

The basement room downstairs is the coolest area, offers one double bed, a bunk, and ample storage space. From here you have access to the underground parking garage.

Main Floor: entrance, living room with a relaxation and dining area, wood stove, satellite TV & Dvd player, stereo, fully appointed kitchen with dishwasher, electric cooking, oven/microwave, and washing machine. Secluded patio with dining table, hammock and barbeque facilities. Toilet. Stairs to up-and downstairs.

Top floor: 3 bedrooms. One with Kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom with large shower, bidet and toilet. One with 2 single beds and one with a roomy bunk bed sleeping two. A foldable baby cot is available. Bathroom with bath and toilet/bidet. All bedrooms have built-in wardrobes.

Basement: one King size bed, one bunk bed sleeping two and wardrobe for storage.

In front of the house, you will find a cobblestone patio where you can catch the morning sun and a cozy terrace where you can enjoy the cool evening breeze with the sound of the nearby sea while sipping a drink.

Zahara de Los Atunes is a cosy small fishing village where the inhabitants have lived from the sea ( tuna fishing ) for many centuries. During the day you can still see the distinctive blue fishing boats in action close to the beach with a backdrop of the Moroccan mountains less than 15 kilometres away. Until recently this coast used to be military exercise area and since it’s release to the county it has been carefully watched by the various environmental parties who all have vowed to preserve this pristine part of Spain and to keep the coastline in it’s original condition.

Developments like in the rest of Spain, especially around the Costa’s along the Mediterranean Sea with Benidorm or Torremolinos as prime examples, are forbidden here.

This has resulted in small scale development of uniquely styled villa’s and apartments ( no high rise ) that complement the natural splendour of this area. You won’t find many foreign tourists here. The majority are people locals or holidaymakers from Sevilla or Madrid.

On the way to nearby Barbate the cows still graze on the beach, campers are parked between the sand dunes and Hippies and surfers still crowd the pleasant beaches of villages like Canos de Mecca (don’t miss a drink in the Bedouin tent with it’s spectacular views on your left when you enter the village!), El Palmar or Conil ( great night market) where time has stood still. And do make an effort to visit Cádiz, the home of Columbus and definitely one of the nicest cities in Spain!

For bird and nature lover’s it’s paradise here as well with several national parks in close vicinity and the annual bird migration from the cold north to the warm south stopping here for resting or breeding. Flocks of storks for example can be seen on a regular basis.

Shops: two small supermarkets and a bakery within five minutes walking distance during the season ( April – September ). Several small supermarkets in the village of Zahara de Los Atunes itself ( appr. 2 kilometers) and a large Lidl and Supermercado in Barbate, the closest town ( appr. 9 kilometers). The Lidl has everything for reasonable prices and accepts pin/credit cards. For a really large shopping experience, there are Carrefour’s in Cadiz and in Jerez.

The large swimmingpool is open from June till September ( you will find entry cards for the pool in the house). There is a free tennis court within 150 meters walking distance and in the complex, you can find a “Padel” court. Padel is the unusual Spanish cross between tennis and squash. Worth trying and a lot of fun!. In the shop ‘Gardens of Zahara” on the corner of the complex, you can rent bikes and make reservations for a Whale Watching adventure. This exciting boat tour starts from the exotic city of Tarifa ( a 35 kilometers drive from Zahara ) and is highly recommended for children as well as the boat will get you very close to schools of playful whales and dolphins crossing the Strait from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean seas.

If you’re a keen walker you’ll find the entrance to a marked track close to the lighthouse situated at the end of the next beach. This is the start of a beautiful track that follows the coastline and leads to the Roman ruins of Bolonia. Don’t forget to bring your camera as the views are spectacular.

If you like authentic markets or, even better, lively night markets, then Conil is the place for you. Don’t take the motorway route though but take the coastal one via Barbate and stop in the nature reserve just after this harbor village for a refreshment at the remains of what was once the largest pigeon house in the world. After you have visited the Bedouin tent in Canos de Mecca for a drink, make a stop in Trafalgar. On the road that leads to the lighthouse, you’ll find on your right hand “Las Dunes”, a tasteful pub built completely out of small rocks and wood. Worth investigating and a nice place to relax in the shade.

All in all, there is plenty to do and see in the area. Not only is your holiday home the perfect base from which to make day trips, it’s also the perfect place to hang out and relax!

On your arrival date, you are welcome between 15.00 and 19.00 hours. On the date of departure, you are expected to leave the villa before 10.00 hours.

Arrival and departure is on Saturdays unless otherwise agreed.

When you’re close to the turnoff to Zahara de Los Atunes on the N340 motorway, please contact our caretaker Stan on his mobile phone number: 0034 645 843 856 ( office number 0034 956 457 200 ). He will wait for you at an arranged meeting place and will guide you to the holiday home.

He will take you for a tour of the house, arranges the bed linen and provides you with the entrance keys. Upon arrival, you pay him the deposit of Euro 200 for the entire rental period which will be refunded to you upon departure after a final house check.
